Former chair of the National Labor Relations Board, Gwynne Wilcox, sued President Donald Trump on Wednesday, alleging her removal from the agency violated federal law. Wilcox’s lawsuit argues that she was fired for political reasons, contravening a law that protects board members from arbitrary dismissal. Trump replaced Wilcox as NLRB chair on his first day in office and fired her and the agency’s top lawyer, Jennifer Abruzzo, a week later via a late-night email. The email cited the need for agency heads to align with Trump’s administration. The lawsuit also challenges Trump’s executive authority and his administration’s attempt to reduce the size of independent government bodies.
